A Tribute to Akis Panou

All My Life

1977
Once this thing here has passed, what harm can the rest do me
This is an ocean, the rest is but a drop
Once this thing here has passed, I shall not fear the rest
This is the sort of thing you experience only once
Once this thing here has passed, what harm can the reaper do me
This is death, this is a burden

“I began to read the lyrics from his songs again, word for word. I saw how many times he had described with precision his battles with his demons, and how many times he had emerged victorious, transforming darkness into light, and pain of every kind – but especially that of love – into something so sacred. Communication between his ego and his broader self was cut one fateful day. Society fell silent, but its heart accompanies him still, with respect and love, assured of his rich seam of talent. ‘And if you tell me things are different, what will you gain / you will kneel down at some moment of difficulty / and even if you are made of iron, you will yield / and if you tell me things are different, what will you gain’…”
