A Tribute to Lefteris Vogiatzis – nea SKINI

Harold Pinter, The Hothouse

The last production Lefteris Vogiatzis directed at the Odou Kykladon Theatre, or how a great poet of the stage gives wings to Pinter’s “atmosphere of poetic fear”, which here equates to patients with numbers instead of names, mysterious births and deaths, interrogations and electroshock sessions in a state ‘rest home’. The production unleashes the prophetic power of this early play (1958, though Pinter would set it aside for over 20 years), thanks to its studious attention to the details of the everyday language out of which the British Nobel prize-winner constructs scripts that might just as well be called scores. A revival of the production with a new cast and the director delivering an unforgettable Roote was planned for this April.
