CAMERATA – Orchestra of the Friends of Music & Lucinda Childs

Haendel, Alessandro

Fresh from the critical success of their recent recording, the Camerata and George Petrou bring Handel’s masterly Alessandro (1726) to life on stage. This production of the opera, a genuine tour de force which makes almost superhuman vocal demands on its three protagonists, features superb baroque specialists and is directed by the celebrated American choreographer, Lucinda Childs. The historical elements of the libretto simply provide a backdrop for a phantasmagorical fairytale in which the florid world of the baroque is combined with the off-screen romances and intrigues of Thirties Hollywood.
