The Brothers Karamazov – The Experience of a Reading
based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novel

Elias Kounelas subscribes to the belief expressed by Borges that reading is one of life’s greatest pleasures. After touching audiences last year with the performance of Garden – Ashes at a neoclassical house in the Athenian district of Kolonos, this year he invites them to join him at the courtyard of a church. Six actors who spent eight months reading The Brothers Karamazov (1880) together share the experience of diving into the depths of Dostoyevsky’s last masterpiece and analyze the issues that arise from the theme of patricide: the value of personal freedom, the need for moral fortitude, the battle between good and evil, faith, and so on. The big question is: How can a novel change our lives?
