Hellenic Ensemble of Contemporary Music – Theodore Antoniou

Χωρίς Τίτλο

The Hellenic Ensemble of Contemporary Music with the TYPANA percussion ensemble takes us on an exhilarating tour of key moments in the avant-garde music production of the 20th century. The programme includes Ballet Méchanique, the American George Antheil’s Modernist ‘manifesto’ which is as fresh today as when it was composed, Iannis Xenakis’ virtuosic Eonta (for piano and brass quintet), and the contemporary American composer George Crab’s Ancient Voices of Children, musical settings for texts by Federico García Lorca. Distinguished musicians perform together under the baton of the tireless Greek guru of contemporary music, Theodore Antoniou (b. 1935), whose recent Concertino for Double Bass and Percussion (written for Edwin Baker, an eminent musician with the Boston Symphony Orchestra) brings the concert to an end [Kh.G.].
