In praise of shadows
Χωρίς Τίτλο
Shadows, a core archetype for the individual and collective subconscious, was always bound to constitute a major reference in art. At the heart of In praise of shadows lies the shadow puppet tradition as it developed in Greece and Turkey and the key figure in its singular dramaturgy: Karaghiozis himself. The exhibition borrows its title from a book of aesthetics by the Japanese writer, Junichiro Tanizaki, and brings together important works by eight contemporary artists and two early 20th-century film-makers.
