Les Talens Lyriques

Christophe Rousset

Under the baton of their founder, the harpsichordist and conductor Christophe Rousset, the Les Talens Lyriques vocal and instrumental ensemble present a programme of religious music by composers who were instrumental in defining the melodramatic style of the high French Baroque. The internationally fêted ensemble begins with Quam dilecta (~1720) which, based on the 83rd Psalm, is one of only four surviving motets by Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764). They continue with a work from Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s (1643-1704)early period, his Symphonies pour un reposoir (~1670), before moving on to André Campra (1660-1744), a composer who combined elements of the French and Italian baroque in his work, performing four movements from his De profundis before bringing the programme to a close with the sparkling tranquillity of his landmark Requiem (~1732-1742) [K.L.]
