“Tetras” the famous of Piraeus
A tribute to Markos Vamvakaris, Anestos Delias, Stratos Pagioumtzis, Giorgos Batis

In 1934 Markos Vamvakaris, Anestos Delias, Stratos Pagioumtzis and Giorgos Batis formed Greece’s first rebetiko band and named it “Tetras, the famous of Piraeus.” It was the first ensemble to employ the bouzouki and baglama – thought by most at the time as instruments expressing the underbelly of society – and to lend the genre its signature sound.

The atmosphere of their performances, the sound of the legendary band which performed from 1933 to 1937 and married the rebetiko music of the East with the tunes of Greece’s inter-war cities, and the zeitgeist of that era are revived at the port of Piraeus in a performance conceived by Lina Nikolakopoulou.
