Louise Bourgeois
Personages
Louise Bourgeois is a unique artist in any number of ways. The centenarian sculptor was born in Paris in 1911, but has lived in the United States since 1938. A legendary figure in the history of contemporary art, she has dedicated herself to an ongoing renewal of her expressive means as she digs tirelessly deeper and deeper into the unconscious. Recurring themes in her work include childhood, the difficulties of adolescence, sexuality and the fear of decay and death. This exhibition at the Museum of Cycladic Art features eight representative sculptures from her acclaimed “Personages” series, including the celebrated Avenza Revisited II (1968-1969).
