Nikos Xydakis

All the Sunsets in the World

A concert comes to life through a notebook full of poems, songs, lyrical fragments, and words that could never make the transition into songs. The music of the lyrics and the sense of soul and loss conveyed by those lyrics, are traced through poems, songs, and musical intermezzos. Dionysis Kapsalis, Michalis Ganas, Heinrich Heine’s A Poet’s Love, Schumann, Schubert’s Winter Journey, Sappho, Dionysios Solomos, and C. P. Cavafy’s Alexandria will jointly compose a small “night story” – an invocation, a prayer, a confession in times of loss.

The title of the concert comes from Dionysis Kapsalis’ eponymous poetry collection. Poems by Heine and Wilhelm Müller will be set to music, translated by Kapsalis into Greek.
