Perm Tchaikovsky Opera & Ballet Theatre
Igor Stravinsky, Les Noces & Petrushka
The Perm Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre emerged as a leading school of music and dance during World War Two, when it served as a refuge for the stars of the Kirov Ballet from Leningrad. For its Festival debut, the company has opted to revive two historic works set powerfully to music
by Igor Stravinsky for Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes: Petrushka (1911, Mikhail Fokin) and Les Noces (1923, Bronislava Nijinska). The second ballet bears the signature of the renowned choreographer Jirί Kylian, whose work is marked by a supreme musicality.
