Romeo Castellucci arrives at the Athens Festival for the third time with a groundbreaking stage production. In Go Down, Moses, we will follow the man’s descent to the dark cave, his return to the womb, the place where the initial representation of a world in which we are both observer and observed is conceived. Naked and afraid, the man will grope his way out to an unknown and unpredictable world. He will be exposed to the light and the constant threat of the other’s look, as the newborn baby is when wrenched from the protective darkness of the womb. Who will guide him in his painful Exodus? Who will free him from the shackles of false images?
