Cinema and the City

The Greek Film Archive's Cinema and the City tribute is a treat for film buffs. Movies by Wenders, Moretti, S. Coppola, Woody Allen, Truffaut, Sjöman and others will be screened later in September. On 29-30 June, three restored silent films about Athens and Berlin will be screened, in collaboration with the Athens Festival:

29 June / 21:00

The Adventures of Villar by Joseph Hepp (1924, running time 26')

An invaluable portrait of 1920s Athens.

 

People on Sunday / Menschen am Sonntag by Robert Siodmak, Edgar G. Ulmer, Rochus Gliese (1929-1930, running time 74')

A study on leisure time, set in Berlin.

Social Decay by Stelios Tatasopoulos (1932, running time 62')

Original composition K. VITA 

The first social realism film in the history of Greek cinema.
