Alain Buffard

(Not) a love song

One of the most radical exponents of French conceptual choreography, Alain Buffard’s quests were initially influenced by the pioneer of American post-modern dance, Anna Halprin, and hinged on issues of gender and sexuality. In recent years, however, his work has begun to feature narrative elements which are often recycled from the cinema and the world of music. He describes (Not) a Love Song as “heterotopies essential for the act of artistic creation”. The stars of this grotesque game of burlesque disguise and reversals – three important figures on the International dance scene: Vera Mantero, Claudia Triozzi and Miguel Gutierrez – subversively open their mouths and sing.
