and we are not at the same place.
work in progress

We began to work on the idea for a work which took the simple step as its starting point within the framework of the ex.e.r.ce programme (ICI CCN). The foundations for and we are not at the same place were laid in France, but the research and creation stage continued in Athens. The members of the multinational group (with members from France, Israel, Brazil and Greece) chose to present their new work in a country which had become a crossing for countless bodies who united East and West with their feet.
The value of walking has been acknowledged since antiquity, when it was seen as a physical activity that could be identified with the process of reasoning. “Coming from different countries and artistic quests, we chose to go back to a primeval activity, a vital movement shared by the whole of humanity: walking. Given that we approached the step as movement and experience, arrangement and form, image and social mechanism, we could only ever have chosen Greece for our upcoming encounter. In a country/crossing for countless feet, we build, search for and reveal a new-old landscape of choices”.
In the performance, the bodies of two intertwined dancers in continuous motion form a surface for the third dancer to walk on. The three bodies are inextricably linked: transformed into cogs, the movements of one drive the movements of the others. Which allows the group to explore the role of walking as a daily movement in contemporary creation.
