Ali / Nous sommes pareils…

Following the warm reception for Rayahzone, the Thabet brothers return to the Festival with a pair of works dedicated to the delicate balancing act that is co-existence.

In Ali, two bodies test their boundaries on stage by combining poetic acrobatics with dance: it is an affirmation of life itself, an attempt at self-awareness through an understanding of the other. In Nous sommes pareils…, which takes its inspiration from a poem by René Char, an ensemble of Greek and Tunisian musicians marry the pain and agony expressed by the rebetiko tradition with the erotic melancholy of the folk songs of the Near East. Alongside them, three dancers mirror the rhythms and lyrics of the songs to get a taste of love’s harsh realities and impasses.
