Compagnie Maguy Marin

Turba

After her whirlwind Umwelt, Maguy Marin returns to the Athens Festival with her latest work: Turba. After thirty years of unwearying creativity, in her last decade’s works the French choreographer never ceases to surprise with quests which transcend labels and transform the theatre stage into an extension of society; for Maguy Marin, creativity is nothing less than an act of resistance against imposed ‘normalities’. In Turba, she grapples with the concept of rhythm and turns once again to the spoken word for inspiration: to Lucretius this time, while it was Beckett in 1981. Her rhythm is borne out of chaos, “a torrent of shifts and shocks, passages sad and enthused” in which the lead role is played, as ever, by the dancing (social) body in compositions whose imagery in turn recall the birth of the universe.
