In the Seventies, Man launched the Voyager spacecraft into space. Never to return, they carry various messages from Earth (images of the planet and of a naked man and woman, recorded greetings in numerous languages, music, a statement from the President of the USA etc.) as an attempt at communication with any alien life-forms they might encounter.
One Small Step for a Man: Hello, Goodbye sets out to repeat this gesture in its own way, underscoring its logical and illogical aspects in the process. The choice of messages reveals the total and shocking dominance of the narrative in the Western way of life. In this performance from Danae Theodoridou, an audience of just 30 are invited to sit around a table together and look through the 118 photographs that were sent into space. The audience play the role of the aliens while two performers, naked on stage surrounded by video projections and sounds, call into question everything the hegemonic culture takes as given.
The production is performed in English without translation and is unsuitable for minors.
