Golfo in Epidaurus: Filming a performance
One year ago, Golfo and Tassos, the bucolic couple from the Greek idyll by Spyridon Peresiadis, was revived on the stage by Nikos Karathanos and took the audience on a journey – in iambic verse of 15 syllables – beyond the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, up to the rugged peaks of Mount Helmos and the pinnacle of love. Now, this landmark performance has provided the raw material for a documentary by Elias Giannakakis, in which the language of film sublimates this hymn to the beauty of life. The film is also a comment and a monument to a unique theatrical moment.
