Giannis Spanos

Songs of a Lifetime

The concert is cancelled

In the early 1960s, after the Parisian nightclubs and a series of collaborations with French stars (Juliette Greco, Brigitte Bardot, Serge Gainsbourg), the young pianist and composer from Kiato, Giannis Spanos, returned to Athens. He recorded his first Greek song – “A Love for the Summer”, performed by Kaiti Homata – and was pivotal in the creation of the genre known in Greece as Neo Kyma (“New Wave”).

Since then he has written music for radio, theatre, cinema and television. He has set to music Greek and French poets and joined forces with leading lyricists and performers. With this concert, the Athens Festival pays tribute to Giannis Spanos, one of Greece’s foremost contemporary composers.
