Singspiele

Three sets of clothes hang on a wall at the back of the stage. A man with a black and white photograph set in front of him very slowly embarks on a game of transformations, each day changing his identity. Eschewing words, he uses his body and above all his face -for the face is what defines us in the Other’s gaze- as the means to become man, woman, child, and youth, recognisable persons and the anonymous alike. The solo dance, which is performed by the marvellous David Mambouch, bears the signature of Maguy Marin, who never fails to surprise us. Gradually life comes to take over the stage, and we care very little if what we are witnessing is choreography, theatre or something else.
