Municipal And Regional Theatre Of Ioannina – Kostas Filippoglou
Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus
A solitary rebel, Prometheus defies Zeus by donating fire to mankind. The ensuing punishment is merciless. Pinned down on an isolated rock, the disobedient Titan endures torments until he is cast into the abyss, together with the Oceanids, by Zeus’ thunderbolt. A tragedy with a philosophical and political background, Aeschylus’ poetic masterpiece speaks, among other things, about freedom of will and questioning power structures.
After the brilliant Philoctetes, talented Kostas Filippoglou directs Prometheus Bound at Epidaurus, in a new translation by poet Giorgos Blanas, and with a cast of remarkable performers – including Tasos Nousias in the title role and Gerasimos Gennatas – and a six-member chorus.
