Lucretia Borgia, by Victor Hugo
Nikita Milivojević, one of Serbia’s leading theatre directors, takes on Victor Hugo’s Lucrezia Borgia – far from a coincidental choice. “The surname Borgia is associated with hideous crimes, committed for the sake of power, and boundless personal ambition. Lust for power has always been linked to immoral, if not criminal practices,” the director points out. His own reading of Hugo’s romantic drama is not a superficial attempt to breathe new life into the elements that make up the performance, but a daring and innovative interpretation of the classic.
