Orchestra of Colours – Miltos Logiadis

20 years

Twenty years on, the ensemble founded by Manos Hadjidakis has over 200 performances to its credit of works by 88 Greek composers. The Orchestra of Colours will be appearing at this year’s Athens Festival with a demanding and varied programme which spans three generations of Greek creativity in the field of serious music. Legendary early works by two leading figures of the international avant-garde – Iannis Xenakis (1922-2001) and Jani Christou (1926-1970) – are counterbalanced by more recent works by Thodoros Antoniou (b.1935), Giorgos Kouroupos (b.1942) and Giorgos Koumentakis (b.1959), whose Amor Fati  was composed especially for Nikos Kazantzakis Year (2007), to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the famous Greek author’s death.
