For her Athens Festival debut, the young director Io Voulgaraki has chosen to stage an early work by the great German Romantic poet and playwright. The Robbers, an emblatic work of the proto-Romantic Sturm und Drang movement which rebelled against logic and rationalism, exposes the violence at the heart of human nature through the tragi-comic story of two brothers who are destroyed by their rivalry and inability to forgive one another.
