Ηomo Hameno Hamini

Having braved the difficult landscape of the Greek contemporary dance scene together for the last 15 years, sinequanon have remained faithful to their basic principles. They have stood firm as a team, continuing to experiment by regularly changing direction but never diverging from their main trajectory, rejecting long-established hierarchies that distinguish dancers from choreographers, resisting compulsive notions of doing things a certain way, and persisting in their idealistic encouragement of unrestrained creativity.

This Greek dance collective, which boasts some of the best dancers working in Greece today, makes a commanding return to the stage with its latest work, the eloquently titled Homo Hameno Hamini. Using the body and movement as their tools, they pose tortuous questions regarding the decimation of nature, the transmutation of life as we know it, and the progressive decline of the senses. They firmly believe in an idea espoused by Dimitris Pikionis – that “the deadening of sensitivity leads to stagnation”. In this piece they build a bridge between physicality and intellectual thought, yet ensure that there is always a self-mocking and playful dimension to the drama.
