Prodromos Tsinikoris
(Somewhere) Beyond the Cherry Trees
A post-documentary performance based on Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard
How do Chekhov’s characters cope with the trauma of loss? How can they go on with their lives after they are displaced from their ancestral home? What kind of fresh start are they looking forward to? If The Cherry Orchard anticipated the Russian revolution(s), what are the alternatives entertained by the play’s characters on the day after, especially today, when the cornerstones of private, social and economic life have been rocked to their foundations? Drawing on his experience with documentary theatre, Prodromos Tsinikoris is inspired by the classic play in an attempt to imagine a sequel set in the present.
