Tania Carvalho
Weaving Chaos
What connection lies between The Odyssey and Portuguese choreographer Tânia Carvalho? Initially as a member of the punk collective Bomba Suicida and then later as an independent artist, Carvalho has remained faithful to her own Ithaca: movement. With Weaving Chaos, her first production at the Athens Festival, Carvalho delves into the Homeric saga to redefine the feeling of returning home and of a never-ending journey. Clearly influenced by the inexhaustible dramatic imagery of the epic poem, she has composed on stage a complex living sculpture of twelve dancers, a highly individual choreography whose protagonist is the suffering body.
