Discussion/Debate

What sort of Festival do we want?

Internationally, what conversations are taking place around the concept of a ‘festival’, and what role are festivals being called upon to play in the production of contemporary art-works? In an era of crisis, to what extent should a festival’s policies be geared towards supporting local creativity? How eclectic, bold and individual should a festival be? How should the artistic director and members of the Board be chosen? These are just some of the questions we will be considering in the first of this year’s Wednesday afternoon discussions—this is a conversation we all need to have.
