Sarah Kane – Psychosis 4:48 – Look at me
The director Yannis Kakleas and the Citizens Kane company present an all-night production-performance dedicated to the world of Sarah Kane. Right after midnight, when the stars “illuminate that which cannot be understood in the world”, creatures like dream figures embark on a journey of their own. With music, words, images and dance, artists and audience explore, narrate, stay awake through the hours of “common dis- quiet”, dive into the world of poetry and—at 4:48 on the dot—hand the baton over to Kane’s final work: Psychosis 4:48.
“At 4:48, when depression visits, I shall hang myself to the sound of mylover’s breathing”, she writes. But what precedes this moment of clarity? What sounds and people, what instincts hold the reins before the clocks show 4:48? And where do they intersect with the worlds of our unconscious? Why do we believe that Kane’s world is relevant to us all, sensitive testimony on a brutally hard, darkly inhumane world and not just the outpouring of a sick soul?
