Youth Greek-Turkish Orchesta – Vladimir Ashkenazy

Χωρίς Τίτλο

Vladimir Ashkenazy is one of only very few musicians who have successfully pursued parallel careers at the keyboard and on the rostrum over multiple decades. The pianist from Gorky – whose performance at the Warsaw International Piano Competition in 1955 prompted Arturo Benedetti-Michelangeli to quit the jury in protest at his being awarded only second place – defected to the West in 1963. His career since then has been nothing short of dizzying, encompassing a wealth of concerts and recordings centring on the Romantic and Russian repertoires. A citizen of the world and an Icelandic national, Ashkenazy has never stopped taking artistic initiatives. His concerts with the Greek-Turkish Youth Orchestra, which aim to pave new routes to comradeship through music, are one such project [K.L.].
