Cesaris Grauzinis

Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare

Rome is in turmoil. The serpent’s egg has been incubated and is hatching in the Senate. A wave of conspiracies, violence, murder and collusion, and in the wings the populace of Rome, now a mob manipulated by demagogic politicians.

Acclaimed Lithuanian director Cesaris Grauzinins approaches Shakespeare’s tragedy against the backdrop of the ethical vacuum and culture of fear endemic in contemporary Western society.

Through an acerbic critique of the means of political manipulation he reflects on issues of power but also on the resolution of the conflicts posed by the great Elizabethan dramatist.
