Monaksxá (a lonely planet)

The sun has either just risen or just set. Still, it’s always on its way to one or the other.

Scott Kelly (astronaut)

On the planet Monaksxà, just before the turn of some year or season, we are introduced to some seemingly unconnected individuals. Will they recognize one another and become properly acquainted? Will one be able to somehow impact on the other’s loneliness? What is loneliness? What does it mean to each of them? Is it inherent to human life as a concept? How does it manifest itself in our everyday lives and how can it lie hidden behind our choices, actions and contemporary behaviours? It’s questions like these the new production from the Terres de Semis company tackle through discussions, research, personal testimony, historical events and passages from world literature, using narrative and its techniques as an analytical tool.

Our fundamental goal is to broadcast to the world our concerns and profound fear about what it means to be or feel alone. Now I'm in my thirties, I’ve started observing people, their rhythms and body language, and it’s as though a new world has been revealed to me, a world that is already on the cusp of the non-realistic: social networking media, internet matchmaking... and at the other extreme, people on the streets without the luxury of choice. Who’s actually alone in the end? As a subject, loneliness goes way back and will continue into infinity. Our goal: to get as close to it as we can. Incurable romantics that we are.
