Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota and his company have a weakness for Ionesco. Following on from Rhinoceros, they return with a rave-reviewed production based on four texts by the French-Romanian author. Sitting around a dinner table, seven actors reveal the absurdity of human relations through mundane situations, setting a carnivalisque ritual in motion.
The loneliness and repression of the individual and facing up to death are some of the conditions that haunt Ionesco’s theatre, but always through comedy, which alone “is capable of giving us the strength to bear the tragedy of existence”.
In French with Greek surtitles.
